The nearest to our wedding venue and liveliest city in the area - Braga offers a rich heritage, beautiful shopping streets and great nights (Irish Pub available!)
- Visit Bom Jesus
- Spend a day at Lago dos Cisnes
- Visit Santa Bárbara Garden
Where to eat: Velhos Tempos or Dona Julia for traditional food, Cafe imperial if you want to try a francesinha or Palatial for a Michelin experience.

GUIMARAES
Located south of Braga, Guimaraes is known as the birthplace of Portugal. Its cobblestone streets and history give it a unique charm.
- Visit the castle and its gardens
- Have a drink at Centro Historico
- Wander the streets of the city centre
Where to eat: Migas Grill for the best Brazilian picanha, Papaboa for traditional Portuguese food or Forno da Vila for great pasta.

GERES NATURAL PARK
The only national park in Portugal and a true nature gem. Designated UNESCO Biosphere reserve, it offers diverse landscapes and activities.
- For families and fun: head to the waterpark where you can enjoy beautiful views and activities.
- For adventure: go on lagoons hikes such as The Seven Lagoons (Sete Lagoas)
For the most adventurous, you can hire guides for kayaking or canyoning (recommend booking via Get Your Guide app)

PORTO & DOURO
You can’t miss the beauty of Portugal’s second biggest city and the wonders of the Douro.
- Highly recommend going on a boat and wine tour from Porto into the Douro region. You can do it as a day trip or hire a car and spend a few days in the Douro region.
- Walk on Ponte Luis I and walk both sides of the river. Take the cable car to Jardim of Morro for great views!
- Visit Torre dos Clergies, the Cathedral and Jardins do Palacio de Cristal.
Where to eat: Time Out Market or Mercado Beira Rio for some amazing food stalls markets, Bosco Porto for drinks and food and A Bolina for traditional food.

BEACH DAYS
The coast of Portugal has some incredible beaches to offer, but if you are looking for some of the closest options, here’s some recommendations.
- Leca da Palmeira and its natural pools (Piscina das Mares)
- Vila do Conde for nice sand, great waves and amazing (very affordable) buffet at Aloha Restaurant. You can also visit Forte de São João from there. Also recommend Romando Beach Club for great sushis and comfortable beds.
- Póvoa de Varzim: the closest option and most family friendly. Head to Farol for a traditional Portuguese food experience or Honi Beach for club vibes.
